The atrocities of the Red Khmers

After a 6 hours night bus drive, which would be the first of many others, we finally arrive in the busy, noisy and grey city that is Phnom Penh at 6AM. Upon arriving at the hostel, we met an amazing British girl at our hostel, Annelie, which would finally stick with us for the rest of our stay in Cambodia. After a quick shower, we went to the Killing Fields in Choeung Ek to finally understand the Cambodian story and all the horrors that happened there. We read some of the History but seing the concentration camp made us realize the atrocities of the crimes that were committed during this dark period of the Cambodia’s history. The Paul Pot’s regime or usually called Red Khmers installed a dictatorship, sent everybody in camps or in crops, where about 25% of the population died.

The next day, we visited the Tuol Sleng memorial museum, which was the former camp S-21, one of the many torture and concentration camp of the Khmer Rouge Regime. You leave this place with a bad feeling.
